Bio

Hi! Welcome to my portfolio site. I’m Kelli Plasket, an undergraduate student at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) with a double major in interactive multimedia and journalism/professional writing.  I’ll be graduating in May 2010.  In the meantime, I am exploring my passion for journalism, professional writing, digital media and communications through my coursework, internships and other professional and academic experiences.

Currently, I’m an intern at Time Inc.’s TIME for Kids magazine, where I assist in producing content for both the Web site and print editions.  At TCNJ, I work part time in the Department of Public Relations and Communications as a digital video editor, alumni magazine writer and Web content manager, and I’m Vice President of my campus chapter of Ed2010, a national community of young and aspiring magazine editors.  I’m also an active member (and two-time scholarship recipient) of New York Women in Communications as a member of the student affairs committee and editor of the student blog, NYWICI nextBLOG.

This year, I am also participating in a grant project titled “Designing the Next Generation Magazine: Content, Usability and Information Security,” sponsored by the Collaborative Research Experience for Undergraduates program from the Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research.  One of my research goals includes building a prototype for a mobile journalism iPhone/Web application.

Previously, I was Web Editor of my campus newspaper, The Signal, for two years, during which I led transition of the Web site from CollegePublisher to WordPress. I was also a summer New Media intern at Gannett newspaper The Courier-Post and a student mentor and researcher in the Interactive Journalism Institute for Middle Schoolers.

When I’m not writing, editing or designing in some capacity, I love getting lost in a good book, movie, TV show, or iPod playlist–I’m a bit of a pop culture and tech junkie.  I absolutely love a good Broadway show, which is why–no matter how jaded a New Yorker I may eventually become–I’ll never hate Times Square.  A Jersey Girl at heart, I also love visiting the Jersey shore (though not this “Jersey Shore”) and any place that has a roller coaster.
